National Board Members

Ms. Rose Hancock, Chairperson

Ms. Rose Hancock was a TIP volunteer for two years in the late 1990's and says "TIP volunteering has been the most challenging thing I've done." Rose has 25 years of marketing, client relations, and event planning experience, including projects for many Fortune 500 companies. After leaving corporate America for a four-year sailing sabbatical, Rose washed ashore in Laguna Beach, CA where she quickly became embedded in the community.

Dr. William Holder, Finance Committee Chair

Dr. William Holder is the dean of the USC Leventhal School of Accounting and holds the Alan Casden Dean's Chair in Accountancy. An expert on financial reporting and auditing, he has authored numerous books and journal articles, and his research has been published in the Journal of Accountancy, The Accounting Review, the Financial Executive, and The CPA Journal. Amoung his awards is the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants: the Gold Medal Award for Distinguished Service, the highest honor given by the institute, and the Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award. He received the Distinguised Service Award from the California Society of Certified Public Accountants, as well as several teaching awards from that organization and from USC. Dr. Holder is a former member of the board of directors of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Los Angeles Society of CPAs, and The Governmental Accounting Standards Board. He was named to the Accounting Circle Professorship in Accounting and the Ernst and Young Professorship in Accounting and has directed the USC SEC and Financial Reporting Institute. In addition, he was twice selected by Accounting Today as one of the 100 most influential people in the accounting profession. Bill lives in Newport Beach and spends his free time boating and fishing.

Mr. John Quinn, Secretary

Mr. John Quinn is an attorney with the San Diego law firm of Drucker Spradling Metzger and Wynne. He is also a principal with JMN Associates Consulting. John has been a board member since 2003 and he has been a consultant to TIP staff and board members since the founding of the organization. John serves on the TIP Board because TIP serves a definite community need in an effective manner. He says "The TIP program demonstrates the best of a community … people helping their neighbors." John is married to Linda and has 2 children. He enjoys sports, cooking, and reading.

Mr. John Charles, Chair, Nominating Committee

Mr. John Charles is a retired senior executive with SmithKline Beecham Clinical Laboratories. He holds a degree in Medical Technology. John is presently the Director of Media and Public Relations for Crystal Cathedral Ministries in Garden Grove, CA. He knows TIP "close up" because he is the proud spouse of a passionate and devoted TIP volunteer who has served TIP for over 8 years. John believes "TIP fills a very needed and emotional gap which is found in everyday tragedies that happen to everybody." John lives in Laguna Beach, CA with his wife, Freddie, and enjoys travel, photography, and good food.

Mr. Irwin Bornstein, Member at Large

Mr Bornstein has over 20 years experience as an Administrator in local goverment, most recently serving as the Assistant City Manager in the City of Mission Viejo. He is a CPA and has an MBA from Stanford University.

Dr. Nicole P. Bernal, MD Member at Large

Dr. Bernal is an Assistant Clinical Professor, Department of Surgery, at UC Irvine. She is board certified in surgery and critical care surgery. Dr. Bernal graduated from Medical School at Case Western University and has completed fellowships in surgical critical care, pediatric surgery, and burn surgery. Dr Bernal is a surgeon at UC Irvine Medical Center and at the UC Irvine Regional Burn Center.

Dr. Cyrus Dastur, MD Member at Large

Dr. Dastur is the Director of Neurological Care at UC Irvine and an Assistant Professor of Neurology. His clinical interests include intracerebral, ischemic, and subarachnoid hemmorrhage, as well as traumatic brain injury. Dr. Dastur was the 2015 recipient of the Marianne Cinat, MD Memorial Heroes With Heart Award.

Ms. Gail E. Eastman, Member at Large

Ms. Gail Eastman is an author and businesswoman elected to the Anaheim City Council in November 2010. Ms. Eastman is a governmental relations consultant on land use entitlements and serves as a community relations specialist. While serving on Anaheim’s Planning Commission, Ms. Eastman wrote "Anna’s Home by the River," a children’s book that tells the 150-year history of Anaheim. Each year, she helps raise funding for the Mayor’s Gift of History event at the Anaheim Convention Center, where the book is presented to thousands of third grade students who attend.

Mr. Mike Jensen, Member At Large

Mr. Jensen is the owner of Pacific Retail Partners in Long Beach, CA which lists among it's clients Home Depot, In -N- Out Burger,Saks Fifth Ave, Fresh and Easy, and others. In 2011 Mr. Jensen was a passenger in a fatal airplane crash. Five passengers were killed; Mr Jensen was the lone survivor. He suffered 40% burns on his body including his arms, legs, and back. Mr. Jensen and his wife Diane are active donors to many Long Beach charities. They have three daughters.

Maryam Parnam, Esq. Member at Large

Ms. Parnam is a founding member of Avrek Law Firm. She has been serving accident victims and their family members in Southern California for 15 years. She practices in both State and Federal courts. Ms. Parnam is the Founder of the Maryam Parnam Foundation for Injured Children. This Foundation provides healthcare and other related services to children who suffer from catastrophic injury.

Molly Perry, Member-at-Large

Molly Perry is a 25-year municipal professional who has served three local agencies through her career. Ms. Perry earned her undergraduate degree in business from Concordia University, Irvine, and her Masters of Public Administration and Leadership from California State University, Long Beach. Ms. Perry was awarded the 2013 City Clerk of the year by the Southern City Clerks Association of California as well as receiving an Honorable Mention for Outstanding Public Relations by the same organization. Ms. Perry has extensive volunteer experience through her numerous coaching positions in youth sports and through her commitment to education in her community. Ms. Perry recently retired from the City of Irvine where she served as the City Clerk. Ms. Perry now resides in San Clemente with her husband Mike where they look forward to traveling and spending time with their four children and grandson.

Malcolm Mitchell, Member-at Large

Malcolm Mitchell has been a TIP volunteer for nearly 15 years and has logged over 500 calls, he is also a TIP National Trainer. He is the Managing Director of a non-profit foundation that takes on special projects, such as laser tattoo removal programs for those in prison, medical clinics in remote areas of Africa, and many others. He holds an MBA from UCLA and was founder and CEO of three companies which were sold to Fortune 500 companies.
